I should draw your attention to the highlighted paragraph which states Vietnam's ability to handle SARs much better than Singapore's. Returning from a country which superbly handled the SARs case, personally, I couldn't feel anything more than relief. Do I sound like a Vietnam fan? NO. I should probably emphasize the fact that Vietnam is a perfect example of what a third world country should do to remain poor. I'm talking about the country's laziness to curb corruption and money swindling. There just isn't the Eye of the Tiger in these Vietnamese. What's this Eye of the Tiger? Anyone in this civilised world would have watched Rocky 3. And that's the thing I'm talking about. When I went to Shanghai, Suzhou and Hangzhou last holidays, the Chinese had a look in their eyes. The look of hunger, hunger for knowledge, passion to learn and surge and excel. And after visiting Melbourne, then Vietnam and finally back to Singapore I saw the many different looks in the people's eyes. The people from Melbourne are a bunch of very friendly, easy-going citizens. However, they had the look of a well-fed, happy, satisfied look in their eyes. That would be very much well thanks to their amazing city environment and developed country policies and lifestyles. In Vietnam, the people had the same glazed, happy, satisfied look in their eyes. But their lifestyle and living conditions were terrible and not even close to par with the Australians. Perhaps, it is a wake up call for Singaporeans to not get complacent over our country's sucess and learn from both the Chinese and the Australians to achieve a lifestyle which is both gracious and competitive.
this is still my ex-mate's thing. agreed in certain extent. but i dun think vietnamese are luzy leh.......my neighbour, english class mates all very hardworking..... think vietnam is juz like china in 1970.........
i'm hungry for knowledge also, but i really no apetitie to eat knowledge.what is happening????
if replace 'knowledge' with 'food', and i am still feeling not to eat, that will be the perfect case.
someone n myself(imp) bless me.
